Our practice
A small firm,
deliberately so.
We have never wanted to be a large practice. Four partners, a handful of assistants, and a caseload we keep small enough that nothing is handed to whoever happens to be free that week.

Every engagement begins with a written estimate setting out our fee, the VAT, each disbursement, and what is not included. If the scope of a matter changes — and in litigation it often does — we tell you what that costs before we do it, not when the bill arrives.

The firm
Two partners who left
the City to do this.
Hugh Elis and Camilla Wright had spent a combined twenty-five years at large City firms before taking two rooms on the north side of Lincoln's Inn Fields in 2012. Both had grown tired of watching clients they had met at pitch be handed down to whoever had capacity that week.
Edward Hallam joined them as a partner in 2017, on the same terms and for much the same reasons. The firm has grown to four partners since, and has turned down the opportunity to become considerably larger more than once.
The rule it was founded on has not moved: the partner you meet at the first appointment is the partner who conducts your matter to its conclusion. No case handlers, no being passed between departments, and no uncertainty about who is responsible for your file.
